Zerg vs Protoss counters

zerg vs protoss counters Using the proper counters in a Zerg versus Protoss match will help you a lot when dealing with the various units of Protoss arsenal. Your opponent can use many types of rushes that can severely damage your economy or even win the game so it`s necessary to respond the right way.

In the late game you will probably face a combination of various units and spellcasters – the key is to respond with your own unit mix (that counters opponent`s forces) and control your army well.

Zealot

You will meet Zealots often when playing ZvP. When your opponent tries to rush you with them, outnumber and surround them with Zerglings and get Roaches as quickly as possible. They excel against them, particularly with the movement speed upgrade.
As the game progresses, you will probably face a combined forces of Zealots, Stalkers, Immortals etc. so you will have to mix several types of units also. Nevertheless, Infestors will help you with their Fungal growth spell.

Stalker

Zerglings are the perfect counter here – research Metabolic boost and surround the Stalkers.
Hydralisks with range upgrade and focus fire also work quite well. Use them in combination with Zerglings or Roaches.

Sentry

Most of the time you will have problems with their spells rather than with Sentries as attack units. So you can safely attack with Zerglings, Roaches, Hydralisks or other units unless the Sentries outnumber your forces.
Use burrowed Roaches to sneak under Force fields and also be careful in battle – the Force fields can easily divide your army enabling the Protoss to destroy it one part at a time.

Immortal

You won`t probably face pure Immortal army as they are easily countered by Zerglings or Mutalisks.
So use a combination of units when facing Immortals grouped with other units.
Be careful with your Roaches – Immortals deal an insane amount of damage to them.

Colossus

Use aerial units like Mutalisks and even better Corruptors to take them down safely.
Ultralisks can also counter Colossi.
Use Infestors to Mind control them.

High Templar

Spread your units to minimize the effect of Psionic storm.
Use Mutalisks to pick them off. With good micro, you should be able to evade the storms.
Ultralisks can take a lot of damage from storms before dying so use them as a meat shield.

Dark Templar

The key point is to detect them of course – so morph some Overseers and guard your mineral lines, ramps and other choke points. A Spore crawler can also help.
Other tactics to detect them include casting a Fungal growth on the place when you spot them. Or using the Baneling`s self-destruct near them.

Archon

Use Hydralisks and focus fire. Roaches can also work.

Phoenix

When dealing with Phoenix rush, defend with your Queen - but be careful, your opponent can easily lift her up with Graviton beam and destroy her. Protect or hide your Overlords and get Hydralisks (or Spore crawler) quickly.
When facing a large force of Phoenixes, I would recommend getting Corruptors.

Void Ray

Use Mutalisks or Corruptors to engage Void Rays when they are without any ground support. Focus fire and don`t let them fully charge their weapons.
A large group of Hydralisks also works well. Combine them with other units when facing ground army with Void Rays as a support.

Carrier

Corruptors are the best choice, you can also use large force of Mutalisks or Hydralisks with Grooved spines upgrade.
Engage them when they have no ground support and focus fire on the Carriers.

Mothership

Again, use Corruptors or large force of Mutalisks or Hydralisks with Grooved spines.
Spread your forces to minimize the effect of Vortex and bring some Overseers to detect units cloaked by the Mothership.
