Terran, Protoss or Zerg – Which race to choose?

terran, protoss, zergHave you just started playing StarCraft 2 and don`t know which race to choose?

Terrans? The ancient and powerful Protoss? Or the alien Zergs? In this article I will give you a quick overview of each race in StarCraft 2 and also add some general advice.

The most common approach

There is a path most novice players take when selecting their race. They start with Terran, simply because the Terrans are us, humans.

Terran

TerranThey are the most understandable, use units that are well-known to us (infantry, vehicles, aircrafts) and also techniques and abilities that we know from our world (repairing, healing, nukes etc.). And the fact that the first StarCraft 2 campaign – Wings of Liberty – is mostly a Terran campaign counts as well. It is also very easy to play Terran on the beginner level.

Protoss

ProtossA lot of players then try Protoss. Their high-tech units and buildings are very attractive and they offer a lot of features that help newbies make their playing easier (for example that Probe can build multiple buildings at once). Their units are also more expensive so you have to control a smaller army compared to Terran or Zerg.

Zerg

ZergThe Zerg are often chosen as the last. They are the most exotic race and hardest to understand and learn – mainly because they have a completely different building style than Terran or Protoss and use specific features (for example the Creep or using Queen to boost your unit production).

I would suggest you to try this approach and then decide if you already have you favorite race. If not, don`t worry, just play some games as Terran for example, then switch to Zerg, then Protoss.

And after you find a race that suits you the most, stay with it and master it. Of course you can play random, but mastering all three races is much more difficult and almost impossible for a beginner, so choosing one race is definitely a better option.
